ACE Mentor Program of Baltimore Updates Related to COVID-19

UPDATE

Hello ACE Baltimore Mentors, Schools, and Board Members,

I hope you all are doing well and staying safe. I am emailing you to let you know that after much consideration by the ACE Baltimore team, we will unfortunately be canceling the ACE Mentor Program of Baltimore for the remainder of the school year due to the COVID-19 crisis. This does include all remaining mentor sessions as well as the end of program year events previously scheduled for May (Presentation Night and Scholarship Breakfast). In addition, due to this situation and the implications these changes have for the program, we are unable to offer ACE Baltimore scholarships this year.

We are very sorry to have to do this after all the  hard work that you all have done. We want you to know how much it means to us to have our ACE Baltimore community in these unprecedented times and we do have plans in action to facilitate resources to our students. I will be reaching out to teams individually to discuss ways to conclude the program year and ways we can help the students receive information and resources.

As always, I will continue to engage with you all as the ACE Baltimore community and while this is one of the hardest decisions our program has had to face, we are dedicated to make the 2020-2021 program year the best it can possibly be.

Outside of ACE Mentor, if there is anything I can do to help your organization or school, please let me know as we are all in this together.

Thank you again for your continued support and understanding,

Hello ACE Baltimore Mentors, Schools, Board Members, and anyone else in the Baltimore community.

With the recent updates related to COVID-19, ACE Mentor Program of Baltimore will be suspending all mentor sessions until further notice. The safety of our students, and all those involved, is of the most importance. We are currently uncertain if the program will continue this school year, and will be sending updated information as things develop.

With that, we will not be finishing this year’s design project and are currently exploring other ways to incorporate the project in the future. If it is possible to resume mentor sessions this year, we will be finding a way to culminate the year and the work already completed as well as focus on career exploration and workforce readiness conversations.

Decisions on the end of program year events (presentation night and scholarship breakfast) as well as scholarships for seniors will be determined in the coming weeks. We are working to finalize this information as soon as possible and will continue to keep our community up-to-date.

In the meantime, there are important steps you can take to protect yourself. The best measures to stay healthy during this outbreak are those we should all be taking throughout the flu season—following these guidelines will help to keep you and everyone else healthy:

Stay Healthy

  • Wash your hands frequently throughout the day with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after visiting the restroom. When hand washing is not possible, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 67% alcohol or ethanol.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue into a waste basket (remember to wash your hands after you cough or sneeze). If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
  • Avoid touching your face or rubbing your eyes.
  • Stay home if you are sick and experiencing any symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or fever. You should only return to the program after you are free of symptoms (without the use of medications for fever or other symptoms) for 24 hours.
  • If you are sick with any type of cold, flu, cough, strep or other allergy-type symptoms please exercise caution and stay home until after you are free of symptoms (without the use of medications for fever or other symptoms) for 24 hours.
  • Speak to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay Informed

Please check your local community health organization websites for the latest information about COVID-19 in your area. There is excellent information at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) https://www.cdc.gov/  and the World Health Organization (WHO) https://www.who.int/

During this time of uncertainty we thank you all for your continued patience and we remain incredibly grateful for your time and commitment to ACE.
