Job Description

The Black Women Build – Baltimore Construction Lead will restore vacant buildings by teaching construction skills to trainees

Position Description 

  • Leads restoration of houses with trainees
    • Lead must be able to build alongside participants
  • Develops and maintains relationship with sub-trades and trainees
  • Consults with Executive Director to assess and evaluate materials needs
  • Works with Executive Director and trainees to restore houses
  • Interest in building and permitting practices
  • Track daily activities in building and trainees
  • Other work as assigned by Executive Director

Responsibilities 

  • Provides primary and comprehensive teaching of construction skills by working on houses
  • Manages materials inventories
  • Works with trainees and subcontractors
  • Helps to stock and restock materials
  • Other work as assigned by Executive Director

Requirements 

  • Desire to work with a mission-driven organization
  • Knowledge and skill of building practices and materials
    • Electrical (outlets and lights)
    • Plumbing (faucet/sink/trim installation)
    • Carpentry (Doors, windows, flooring, cabinets, trim, framing, etc)
    • Tile (installation)
    • Exterior work (siding, painting, as needed)
  • Highly organized and tidy with a desire to achieve and maintain order
  • Reside in the Baltimore area or willing to move
  • Holds valid driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Highly self-motivated with ability to work independently
  • Able to supervise and instruct three to four trainees
  • Must have the ability to safely lift/push/pull up to 60lbs on a regular basis
  • Maintain clean and safe work site
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week during two cluster builds

Salary $48K-58K DOE plus up to $500/month in health benefits
